GIS Specialist, Full Time Position

Location: Merritt, BC
  • Plotting spatial data using GIS and GPS
  • Understanding mapping standards around projections, coordinate systems, and working with geo databases
  • Impeccable data and metadata management abilities
  • Ability to assess data quality (e.g. completeness, precision, accuracy, and consistency) of complex geographic datasets
  • A variety of spatial analysis tools
  • Preparing high-quality maps, spatial analysis, and graphics in a way that takes in to consideration and effectively speaks to the audiences
  • Effectively troubleshoot ArcGIS problems
  • Work well in a team environment and under pressure
  • Experience working in land use and occupancy research, land use planning, and/or environmental assessment or other regulatory processes an asset
  • Strong quantitative data analysis skills an asset
  • Working with Microsoft Access database experience an asset

Mandatory Qualifications and Experience:

  • A GIS Diploma or Certificate from a College or University
  • 2-5 years’ experience working in a related field
  • Substantial experience with GIS
  • Experience with customizing GIS applications
  • Familiarity with cloud-based data storage solutions
  • Experience with web-GIS platforms
  • Ability to work with enterprise database development
  • Valid unrestricted Class 5 driver’s licenseAsset Qualifications:


  • Experience working with First Nation or other Indigenous Communities in Canada*
  • Experience providing training in environmental monitoring or impact assessment**
  • Experience with planning and implementing communication and consultation programs and activities**
  • Community economic development, conflict resolution*
  • Experience in capacity building/training
  • Passion for multimedia story-telling

Experience: GIS: 2 years (Required)

Education: DCS / DEC (Required)

Licence: Class 5 Drivers License (Required)
